January 2020 - Students from the Atal Tinkering Labs at Amrita Vidyalayam, Puthiyakavu, and Thalassery represented India at the prestigious FabLearn Asia 2020, held at King Mongkut’s University in Bangkok, Thailand. The teams presented groundbreaking projects, including an eco-friendly biodegradable solution for airdropping medical supplies using drones, developed by Sanjula Sreekumar, Madhumati Anand, and Vyshak Ajith. Their paper, titled “Taking off with Biodegradable Tensegrities,” was well received for its potential to assist in disaster relief.
Goutham Mohanraj and Ashok Kumar from Thalassery presented Neuro-Exoheal, a device aimed at aiding stroke rehabilitation by providing assistive forces to counteract muscle weakness. Their trials showed promising results, gaining praise for innovation and impact. Meanwhile, The youngest student, Thejus Shyamlal from the fifth standard has created over ten innovations in the last two years, all the while experimenting with different materials and form sizes for different societal applications. He presented his research paper titled “My experiences with making Electronics and Steam Boats, Lego robots and a Helper Robot” captured his journey in making and tinkering and the lessons he has learned from it.
Despite competing with over 150 participants from across the globe, the Amrita Vidyalayam teams were the only representatives from India. Their projects and presentations received high praise, earning them a complete registration fee waiver. The students also had the opportunity to network with international experts and participate in hands-on workshops, making the event a significant milestone in their journey of innovation and learning.
